What are your names and ages?
My name is Jann Arden and my dog, Midi is 3 years old; also known as Puppet or babykins... she'll answer to all of those.
What breed of dog is Midi and have you ever owned this breed before?
She's a Morkie. So, she's Maltese and Yorkshire Terrier. She's four and a half pounds, naturally blonde hair with highlights and she's got a better wardrobe than me. People don't give me things anymore - they give stuff to her. I've had pets all through growing up, but I never had a little dog.

How did you meet her?
My friend in Nashville said she wanted to get a dog and did all this research for a year and finally got this little dog who was Midi. And she got her at eight or ten weeks and my friend had to go away for three weeks and asked me to fly down and pick up the dog to take care of her. So, I flew down, got the dog and brought her back home. I had her for about three and a half weeks before my friend came back and I flew her back down to Nashville. The whole time I'm thinking, "I don't want to part with this dog... I love this dog". When I left, I was maybe in my door for an hour and the phone rang; my friend said Midi had been crying non-stop, that she wouldn't eat, she wouldn't drink... she was just standing by the door. And so, I went back the following week and it was like two people running through the daisies in slow motion. We have never been apart since.
How long have you been together?
We've been together for about three years.
What kind of home do you share?
I live on 14 acres west of Calgary in a little forest at the end of a dead-end road. We're just kinda tucked away back there with a couple of farm dogs who are a million times bigger than Midi. They don't know what she is... they don't know if she's a squirrel or a rabbit. When she has outfits on they look at me like, "can we eat that? Is that a toy?" Now, three years later everyone is pretty calm.
What is your favourite thing to do together?
We like to sleep, to fly on a plane - she thinks that's quite great - and just any kind of playing. As I'm making my way into the kitchen in the morning she has to take one or both of my slippers then she has to go into my walk-in closet and hides under this rug every day. And I have to go over to it and lift it up and ask, "are you under your rug?" and then the day starts.
Does she have a great trick and what treat does she get for it?
She has no tricks; I never taught her to sit, but she knows her name and that's about it!
Does Midi have a guilty pleasure?
She loves to sun tan. She's got a cushion out on the deck that she will sit on and sun tan.
Is there anything she doesn't like?
She doesn't like hats at all. If you have a hat on, all breaks loose and it always embarrasses the hell out of me. And she doesn't like it if people come and put their head way down close to her - she'll snap at you. But, I don't blame her. If someone did that to me at a party, I'd whack ‘em!
What is her favourite toy?
Probably a rawhide that she chews on or a piece of pepperoni. She usually doesn't eat them, she just throws them around and plays fetch with herself which is an awesome game. She'll throw it then wait for it to move and when it doesn't, she'll toss it again.
What do you love most about Midi?
Her love for me is unconditional and she doesn't care what I do. She's got such a good heart; pets just bring so much to your life.
